Kia Niro EV: more than 380 km of range for the electric SUV from Kia

With the new Kia Niro EV, which will be available at the end of the year, the offer of fully electric SUVs is gradually growing.

Kia has revealed for the first time the electric version of the Kia Niro. It made its debut at the International Electric Vehicle Exhibition held in Korea, where it will go on sale after the summer. We will have to wait until the Paris Motor Show in September to see it in Europe, and its marketing would begin in 2019.

For now, we can already see that the new Kia Niro EV is clearly inspired by the Niro EV Concept prototype unveiled at the CES in Las Vegas. Among its elements that set it apart from the rest of the range are the radiator grille without air intakes and with the charging port flap, and the headlights with LED daytime running lights.

But what is really interesting about the Kia Niro EV is what lies under the bonnet. With the new generation of the electric drive system, the Niro EV can be equipped with batteries of 39.2 kWh or 64 kWh of capacity, which will provide a range of 240 or more than 380 km respectively, depending on the brand. In either case, it falls short of the 470 km of range that Hyundai announces for the new Hyundai Kona electric, although its figures are still pending homologation.
