DS will become the Premium electric brand of the PSA Group from 2025

Next October we will see at the Paris Motor Show the first electric DS, a brand that PSA has decided will be fully electric from 2025

The PSA Group wants to turn DS into the Premium electric vehicle brand within its automotive consortium, for which from 2025 DS will only offer hybrid and electric vehicles in its range, which will also be more geared towards winning new customers in markets as important as the American and Chinese ones.

“Our ambition is very clear: we want DS to position itself clearly among the world’s leading electrified car makers”, said Yves Bonnefont, CEO of DS, an orientation that would go much further, since it could mean the return of the PSA Group to the American market, from which it has been absent for many years. Now, with the acquisition of Opel in Europe, the brands of the French automotive consortium could reconsider their future return to the USA.

According to various American media outlets, the PSA Group has already begun developing new vehicles that also meet the safety standards as well as the fuel consumption and emissions requirements demanded in the USA. For the time being, it has already established its headquarters for North America in Atlanta, from where it will carry out the launch of the exclusive DS models in both the USA and Canada.

DS’s electric offensive will begin with the DS7 Crossback E-Tense PHEV, the hybrid version of the brand’s new large SUV, with 304 CV of combined power provided by its combustion engine and its electric motor and 50 km of fully electric range, according to measurements taken under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) protocol.

Following the recent launch of the diesel and petrol variants of the DS7, the brand now plans to bring the electrified DS7 Crossback E-Tense PHEV variant to market by the end of this year, as part of the ambitious electrification programme for the various ranges of the PSA Group’s brands recently announced by its chairman, Carlos Tavares, who said the French automotive consortium will offer no fewer than 40 electrified models in its product portfolio in 2025, among them undoubtedly the one derived from the spectacular DS E-Tense sports car.
