Kia Sportage 2018: the SUV debuts an efficient mild hybrid engine
The Kia Sportage 2018 will reach the market in a few months, and it will do so with a new diesel mild hybrid propulsion system.
Kia Sportage 2018 arrives with several new features and the aim of consolidating its position as the best-selling SUV in Kia. The renewal of the crossover includes changes to its design (interior and exterior), new safety and connectivity technologies, as well as a new light hybrid propulsion system (mild Hybrid) that Kia is debuting for the first time in its model range. The new Kia Sportage 2018 will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year, and as always it will come with a 7-year or 150,000-kilometre warranty.
Refined design

The new Kia Sportage debuts a new front bumper, new four-point LED daytime running light light clusters and redesigned fog lamps. The rear lights are also of new design, while the profile features new 16, 17 or 19-inch alloy wheel designs. In addition, the compact SUV from Kia now offers five new paint finishes.

The car’s dimensions remain unchanged: 4,485 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,635 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.
Engine range: new mild hybrid diesel unit

The great novelty of this Kia Sportage 2018 is undoubtedly its light diesel hybrid engine (mild Hybrid) of 2.0 litres, 185 CV of power and 400 Nm of torque. This propulsion system, which more and more manufacturers are using for its low cost and high efficiency, increases the vehicle’s acceleration thanks to a compact lithium-ion battery (0.44 kWh and 48V). This battery provides up to 12 kW of electrical power.
This innovative propulsion system is equipped with an SCR system (selective catalytic reduction) that reduces the engine’s CO2 emissions by up to 4%. These are the emissions of the new Sportage under the realistic WLTP cycle: 138 g/km with manual gearbox and 149 g/km with automatic transmission.

The diesel engine range of the new Kia Sportage will also include the new 1.6 l CRDi engine with 115 CV or 136 CV. This engine replaces the former 1.7-litre CRDi and offers lower emissions than the latter: from 126 g/km (115 CV version) and from 123 g/km (136 CV version).
As for the petrol engine range, the SUV will feature the 1.6-litre T-GDi engine, 177 CV of power and 265 Nm of torque (170 g/km of emissions), as well as an atmospheric 1.6-litre GDi unit, 132 CV and 161 Nm (159 g/km). Both engines will be equipped with a new particulate filter.

New driver assistance technologies
The new Kia Sportage debuts a range of driver assistance systems that place it at the forefront of autonomous safety:
- Intelligent adaptive cruise control with automatic stop and go function
- Around View Monitor: facilitates parking manoeuvres
- Driver Attention Warning: detects tiredness or lack of attention at the wheel.
- Front Assist (collision avoidance assistant)
- Lane keeping assistant
- High beam assistant
- Intelligent speed limit warning
