Kia Sportage 2022: everything you need to know
The new Kia Sportage 2022 shares its platform with the Hyundai Tucson and its design language with the Kia EV6. Do you want to know more?

Rumours suggested that the new Kia Sportage 2022 would feature a refreshed design and very bold lines, and the truth is that the manufacturer has not disappointed. The Kia Sportage 2022 is part of the brand’s new design language called ‘Opposites United’, which we first saw on the Kia EV6; a fully electric model. It is true that the South Korean brand has claimed that the exterior design “defies convention”, and that claim really fits it like a glove.
The front is dominated by daytime running light units shaped like boomerangs that reach into the grille. The front headlights, in turn, are diamond-shaped and add to the sense of luxury. The logo also has the new Kia design and sits on the edge of the bonnet. The Tiger Nose grille has evolved and is accompanied by a lower black grille that extends across almost the entire front end.

Moving to the side, there are clean, elegant surfaces that combine very well with one another. For the first time on a Kia Sportage, drivers can choose a black floating roof. This may help accentuate the C-pillar, while the chrome waistline rises towards the D-pillar.
At the rear, the car has a more muscular look. The rear lights are connected by a strip running horizontally along the tailgate. The manufacturer has noted that the rear light units were designed to look as though they are cutting directly into the bodywork. Below, there is a thick-looking lower bumper that matches the black tone of the grille. Overall, it is a striking design, although more conservative drivers may need a little more time to get used to the model’s new lines.

The interior has also arrived to revolutionise the market. The dashboard is oriented towards the driver and features an integrated curved screen that houses both the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The air vents have a three-dimensional look and are located directly on the screen. The brand has not yet disclosed the dimensions of the screen. The centre console, meanwhile, has a high-end glossy finish and contains the gear selector dial and many other functions.
Kia has also wanted to point out that it has used a multitude of premium materials that are pleasant to the touch. Another feature worth mentioning is the integrated suspension-style designs within the slim front headrests for the driver and front passenger, which allow rear occupants to hang bags or backpacks. If all this still seems insufficient, the brand has created the X-Line finish, which includes features such as a more pronounced bumper, seats in exclusive colours and black mouldings.

For now, the engine has not been confirmed, but it is worth noting that the new Sportage shares its platform with the Hyundai Tucson. This suggests an engine line-up identical to that of the Tucson, which starts with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 190 CV, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as an option. Turbocharged, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are also expected. Pricing details have not yet been published, but sales will begin at the end of this year.
