At the Guangzhou Motor Show, in China, Kia has presented its “concept car” KX3. It is the first appearance of the Korean brand’s compact SUV, with which it hopes to reach young Chinese consumers.

This “concept car” shows the silhouette of what could be a future C-segment SUV, in a market that is growing rapidly in China. In fact, Kia plans to offer it exclusively in that market if it finally goes into production.

The KX3 has an SUV appearance, but with a sporty approach thanks to lines almost inspired by a coupé. The rear spoiler accentuates that carefree, youthful touch, combined with muscular wheel arches and a smooth waistline. The front features the characteristic “Tiger nose” grille, in matte chrome, which other models from the brand already use.

LED headlights, chrome details that highlight the car’s silhouette, and the high ground clearance, hinting at 4X4 driving capability, are some of the features that stand out on this SUV. The result is a vehicle with a high degree of functionality and handling.

It has a length of 4.26 metres, a width of 1.76 metres and a height of 1.63 metres. These dimensions offer occupants generous interior space. The boot has a capacity of 400 litres with a fully flat loading area for greater practicality. In addition, the ground clearance allows excellent visibility both on the road and in off-road driving.

Kia’s latest connectivity technology will meet the needs of Chinese drivers, which is the group it is initially aimed at. The high-quality interior has been designed to offer a high level of refinement and comfort, so the KX3 concept promises a high level of equipment and a wide range of options.

Kia has chosen as the powertrain for the KX3 the 1.6-litre turbo direct-injection petrol engine (T-GDI) paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT). The chassis has been designed using ultra-high-strength steel for greater passive safety, capable of achieving a five-star C-NCAP safety rating.

The 4X4 traction, together with the strong performance of the T-GDI engine and moderate fuel consumption, allows great stability in all kinds of conditions.
