KTM adds windscreen and side windows to the X-Bow GT

The KTM X-Bow will not be an exotic supercar, but it is undoubtedly one of those cars that make it onto the dream list that can become reality, someday. Almost a single-seater with bodywork, KTM’s greatest achievement is making the X-Bow a fairly serious machine from a performance standpoint, within reach of many more people than the occasional buyers of Italian and German sports cars.

The Austrian brand has presented the X-Bow GT, a new vehicle for those who are lucky enough to have the chance to enjoy an exclusive car for weekend getaways to the circuit. The new model now features a very generous windscreen, complemented by side windows that will better protect the driver and passenger.

These new additions could form part of a future X-Bow with a kind of roof, something like a removable hood. A mechanism that the people behind the model have nicknamed the “get-me-home accessory”. The idea is that after an “exhausting” track day, the driver can drive back home in any weather conditions. This “roof” could not be used to drive at more than 130 km/h.

As you can see in the photos, not a trace of the mentioned accessory is visible, unless KTM believes that a windscreen and open-air windows will protect us far better than the small deflector the X-Bow has featured until now. It may be a solution that improves part of the problem, but who knows whether it solves the whole problem.

The answer will come in a few days, at the Geneva Motor Show. They have said nothing about the engine, but it may remain unchanged. The 2-litre TFSI with Audi has proven to be the most suitable engine for this kind of go-kart, now with a windscreen, windows, perhaps some kind of roof and even doors.
