Lamborghini has unveiled the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster, a convertible supercar with a carbon-fibre hardtop. It will reach dealerships this summer with a price above €300,000.

After months of waiting and uncertainty, Lamborghini has just officially revealed its most divine creation, the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster, the convertible version of the Italian flagship. The successor to the Murciélago LP640-4 Roadster will reach the market next summer at a price exceeding €300,000.

Unlike its predecessor, mentioned in the previous paragraph, this Aventador does not feature a fabric soft top that limits cruising speed; instead, it has a hard roof made of carbon fibre, engineered so that in the event of a rollover it is stronger than titanium. As a result, it weighs just 6 kg, and can be removed manually in only a few moments.

With this new roof, it was necessary to redesign the rear pillars of the supercar to provide additional rigidity when driving with the roof removed. They also provide extra ventilation for the engine while offering greater rollover protection.

The engineers at Lamborghini have installed a motorised rear windscreen that can control the airflow entering the cabin, as well as the level of engine noise passengers can hear while driving with the roof down. It also features a deflector that allows occupants to travel with the comfort of a coupé.

In addition, the engine cover now includes a “spine” with two crossed metal bars, while the scissor doors have a different edge for the frameless windows, providing a airtight finish on the carbon-fibre roof.

Mechanically it still features the spectacular naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine, which sends its 700 CV to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. This one already features cylinder deactivation and automatic engine stop-start.

Compared with the coupé version, the Roadster loses 0.1 seconds in the 0–100 km/h sprint, bringing it to an exact 3.0 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 349 km/h, one less than the original.
