LIUX is born, a Spanish company that aims to build a sustainable electric car

Two Spanish entrepreneurs have created a start-up aimed at offering a sustainable electric vehicle by 2023.

Liux Boreas Prototipo

Two Spanish entrepreneurs, David Sancho and Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros, have founded the company LIUX. This Spanish start-up is preparing for the arrival of the new mobility, and its proposal aims to shake things up. It is a company that wants to present a sustainable electric vehicle.

For the two entrepreneurs, this would mean going beyond simply fitting an electric motor and a battery into a chassis. What they want is to implement a comprehensive plan that controls CO2 emissions, from the design of the car through to the manufacturing process.

Liux Plataforma Modular

Plant-based materials for manufacturing the car

The idea is based on the possibility of using materials of plant origin and avoiding the use of natural leather and similar materials. Moreover, their intention is not to announce the production of hundreds of thousands of units a year, as other companies do, only to later face serious problems meeting their commitments.

The production of the sustainable electric car will take place in small factories rather than one large plant. In this way, with sustainable growth, the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere will be avoided beyond what is strictly necessary.

A sustainable car

As far as the car itself is concerned, a production rate is expected that would deliver 5,000 units in the first year, reaching a production rate of 50,000 units in the second year. According to the company, this vehicle will not only be sustainable but also affordable.

It will be manufactured using 3D printing technology, and its bodywork will use materials derived from biocomposites and bioplastics. Spain appears to have a good supply of these materials, so they can be obtained in a simple and efficient way.

The platform used will be modular, so several types of modules can be integrated, such as battery packs. These will be of Asian origin because, according to the entrepreneurs, “they cannot yet be manufactured in Spain“. The platform will be able to accommodate batteries of between 45 and 90 kWh.

The first projects

The first project will be a compact-segment car, which already debuted as a prototype at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017. This model will later be followed by a two-seat small electric city car, in the style of Citroën AMI.

The company has already joined one of the PERTE VEC projects submitted to the Ministry of Industry to qualify for European Union aid, the NEXT Generation EU funds.
