Lucid Motors reportedly delays its arrival in Spain until 2027

This situation is an example of the challenges premium electric vehicle manufacturers face in establishing themselves in a highly competitive European market, where meeting expansion deadlines has become increasingly difficult.

The American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Motors has reportedly postponed the start of its operations in the Spanish and Austrian markets until next year. The company had announced its entry this same year into both Spain and Austria, alongside five other European Union markets, but it now appears that this will not be the case.

Today, Lucid Motors’ presence in the Old Continent is quite limited. The brand currently operates effectively only in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. During the presentation of its 2025 financial results, Lucid Motors told its investors that it planned to expand into seven additional European countries: Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Austria, Sweden and Spain. However, of all these countries, only the start of Lucid Motors’ operations in Belgium has materialised, where the company recently opened a test drive centre.

This decision is part of a series of delays that have characterised Lucid Motors’ European strategy. The company has already announced, for example, that the start of its operations in the United Kingdom has been delayed until 2028. The truth is that the American manufacturer’s vehicles should already be available in this market, but the company initially pushed the launch back to 2027 and, finally, the Lucid Air and the Lucid Gravity will not be on sale until early 2028.

A complex future

It is also worth noting that Lucid Motors is implementing important changes to its business model to drive its growth in Europe and the Middle East. The company will maintain its direct sales structure (with flagship stores and its online platform), but will also incorporate independent dealerships.

While all this is happening, Lucid Motors continues to face financial difficulties. The company reports significant losses and recently was forced to temporarily halt deliveries of the Lucid Gravity due to supplier problems.
