BYD unveils the surprising technical specifications of the Denza Z premium supercar

With this spectacular electric supercar, BYD aims to consolidate its presence in the demanding segment of high-performance electric supercars under its premium Denza brand.

Following its official presentation last April at the Beijing Auto Show, BYD has just revealed the full, impressive technical specifications of its new all-electric supercar, the Denza Z. To give an idea of the kind of vehicle we are dealing with, it is enough to mention the combined output of 1,180 kW from its electric motors, which places it among the most powerful electric models on the market.

According to recent reports published by several Chinese media outlets, the Denza Z will reach dealerships in the Asian giant next July. It will be available in two versions: a convertible with a retractable soft top and a roadster with a removable hard top. The Denza Z is a four-seat supercar with compact dimensions for its category: it measures 4.78 metres long, 1.99 metres wide and 1.35 metres high, with a wheelbase of 2.78 metres.

The aforementioned combined output of 1,180 kW for this supercar is generated by a 500 kW motor on the front axle, to which two more are added on the rear axle, providing an additional 680 kW. BYD describes the Denza Z as a masterpiece created by an international team led by chief designer Wolfgang Egger.

It is no ordinary supercar

The Denza Z stands out for its carbon-fibre body, which incorporates the advanced DiSus-M control system. It also features a Blade 2.0 battery pack, optimised to offer greater range and compatible with BYD’s Flash Charging ultra-fast charging system, which significantly reduces the time needed to complete a charge.

It supports charging power of up to 1,500 kW, making it possible to raise the charge level from 10 to 70 percent in just 5 minutes. And in 9 minutes it is possible to go from 10 to 97 percent.

The new supercar from the Chinese manufacturer is not, however, only quick at the charging point but also on the track. The standard version reaches a top speed of 300 km/h, while the version with the sport package can reach up to 350 km/h. This increase in performance is not achieved with more powerful motors, but mainly thanks to a large rear spoiler that generates greater aerodynamic downforce.

Although for the time being it will only be sold in China, there is a possibility that the Denza Z will later arrive in Europe, and more specifically in Germany. Denza, the premium brand of BYD, already has a newly opened showroom in the German city of Hamburg, and the opening of two more in Cologne and Frankfurt is expected soon. In total, Denza plans to have around 40 sales outlets and at least 80 service centres spread across Germany by the end of this year.
