Maserati Ghibli: just a few steps behind the Quattroporte

Just one small step behind the brand’s flagship, the Maserati Quattroporte, the new Maserati Ghibli is finally officially presented as a turning point in the brand’s history. The new model will allow Maserati to offer, at the same time, two four-door saloons for the first time in its history, and the first diesel engine in the brand’s line-up.

The Ghibli is shorter, lighter, more dynamic and more economical than the Quattroporte, yet it guarantees high performance thanks to its 3-litre V6 Twin-Turbo engine. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive will also be available. The most powerful version of the new Ghibli, the Ghibli S, delivers 410 CV and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds, with a top speed of 285 km/h.

As we mentioned, the Ghibli will introduce the diesel engine, with fuel consumption below 6 l/100 km on the combined cycle. The Ghibli Diesel will also be the first Maserati with Start-Stop technology. In addition, the base Ghibli, the Ghibli S, the Ghibli S Q4 and the Ghibli Diesel will use an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Compared with the Quattroporte, the Ghibli shares many of its elements, such as its architecture, anti-impact safety, chassis, suspension layout and engines. Although it is 50 kg lighter, it has a wheelbase 173 mm shorter and is 291 mm shorter overall.

Among the equipment announced by Maserati is the Maserati Touch Control touchscreen, adjustable pedals, a reversing camera, Poltrona Frau leather interiors and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 15 speakers, as well as WiFi WLAN and compatibility with the most modern smartphones.

Prices for the new Ghibli, excluding taxes, are as follows:

  • Ghibli M157 3.0 V6 DS 275hp RWD from 54,600 euros.
  • Ghibli M157 3.0 V6 BT 330hp RWD from 56,200 euros.
  • Ghibli M157 3.0 V6 BT 410hp RWD from 66,800 euros.
