The Citroën Wild Rubis will also be sold in Europe

At the recent Shanghai Motor Show, the Citroën Wild Rubis Concept had been presented, no less than a premium SUV from the advanced DS line. This version was designed to be a breakthrough in the Asian market, which it has achieved, although those of us who wanted to see it in Europe were left wanting. Given the success obtained, Citroën has made a decision regarding the model: to market it also in a European variant.

For now, it seems the Wild Rubis will arrive on a limited basis, as a test to check whether it really is worth bringing it to Europe. Citroën will import it from China, where it will be produced. The French already have an idea of the name it will carry in Europe, the DSX7, based on the DS5 platform.

But Citroën’s aspirations won’t stop there, and they are even more ambitious. The Wild Rubis will be presented in production form at the next Shanghai Motor Show, and its commercial launch will take place in 2014. After that, Citroën will present a concept that will rival the 5 Series from BMW and another one that will be the size of the Volkswagen Jetta.

Citroën’s DS series and the concepts that come after it could pave the way for a transformation, turning the brand into a more elitist and more international one, bearing in mind that it is in the East where sales of somewhat more expensive models really happen.

However, although several European media outlets have echoed the rumor, everything will be subject to the consideration of the brand’s product chief, who has mentioned that the arrival of the Wild Rubis in Europe is a possibility. It seems that everything will depend on the overwhelming response from the Chinese public to the model. We will see whether the European model can become a reality.
