Maybach Exelero changes hands for €5.4 million

It’s been a while since we last talked about the Maybach Exelero, one of those one-of-a-kind vehicles, and not just in name: Maybach only ever built this concept as a fully functional car. Because of its exclusivity and, above all, its price, it rarely shows up at any kind of event.

So much so that, at least personally, I had no idea the German tyre company Fulda Reifenwerke wanted to sell this unique car. It will now pass into the hands of Bryan Williams, better known as the “bird man”.

What I can’t quite understand is what drives a man to spend 8 million dollars, somewhat more than €5.4 million, on a car, a price that is very high even for a car that is unique in the world. In fact, for that price you could buy the entire production run of the Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang without much trouble.

As a reminder, the Exelero was notable at the time for its Mercedes 6.0 V12 twin-turbo engine, capable of producing a not inconsiderable 700 hp and 1,020 Nm of peak torque, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds or reach a top speed of 351 km/h.
