Maybach will be discontinued by Daimler in 2013
Daimler has announced that it is permanently closing the Maybach brand after 8 years of struggling with model sales. The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will mark the end.

Maybach, another brand in trouble that was surviving thanks to the charity of Mercedes-Benz, will be definitively eliminated in 2013, according to “senior Daimler executives” and the decision taken by Dieter Zetsche.
The decision comes after the ultra-luxury Maybach models never found acceptance in the large saloon and limousine market, in line with the expectations created back in 2002, when the star brand revived Maybach.
The last Maybach models are scheduled to go on sale in early 2013, at which point a new generation of the S-Class from Mercedes itself will somehow continue the path Maybach had blazed in the ultra-luxury saloon segment.
Not even Daimler’s attempt to save Maybach production through an agreement with Aston Martin, nor its offer to the English brand of Maybach engines for its own models, changed the fate Maybach was heading toward.
