McLaren 750S Spectrum Theme, the most exclusive paint for a very exclusive supercar
McLaren announces the exclusive Spectrum Theme paint for the 750S, developed by MSO, combining several shades to achieve a perfect gradient

If you are a devotee of McLaren, and you are fortunate enough to have a very deep pocket and want the most exclusive offering in its range, the English brand has the 750S for you: a supercar that the brand unveiled last spring in both Coupé and Spider formats, serving as the natural successor to the 720S and also arriving with the distinction of being the most powerful and lightest McLaren the brand has ever built.
A vehicle this exclusive was never going to remain out of the hands of McLaren Special Operations, the brand’s department in charge of realising its customers’ most personal ideas as well as creating exclusive and limited editions. On this occasion, MSO’s first project for the 750S focuses on an exclusive paint finish for its bodywork, which has forced the brand to develop new techniques.

Spectrum Theme, as the brand has named this type of paint, is applied by hand due to the precision required, blending up to seven shades very closely together to create the visual illusion that the colour shifts from light to dark across each individual band of paint, which also gives a sense of speed even when the 750S is standing still.

McLaren will offer the Spectrum Theme paint in the Spectrum Blue, Spectrum Grey and Spectrum Orange versions, which may also be combined with other MSO bespoke personalisation options, such as exterior logos with a gradient effect, extended carbon fibre for the door sills with hand-finished details, a bespoke dedication plaque for the interior, or more striking colours for the interior leather details.
On the 750S bodywork, the most complicated part to paint with Spectrum Theme is the lines of the intricate dihedral doors, something MSO’s craftsmen have managed to resolve with precision. Furthermore, its rear features a nod to MSO’s Velocity Theme, with a seventh tone that is not a solid stripe but a gradient wrapping the entire rear section, so that Spectrum Blue becomes Metallic Aurora Blue, Spectrum Orange evolves into Gamma Red Metallic, and Spectrum Grey likewise evolves into Metallic Meteorite Grey. Finally, the lower part of the active rear spoiler can be painted in a contrasting colour.

MSO states that this is only the beginning and that these will not be the only ones, as customers will be able to request unique colour combinations. This is because there is no fixed formula for creating each Spectrum Theme, since they require custom mixes in precise quantities to achieve a coherent shift between light and dark tones and thus deliver the desired result.
