Subaru, the renowned Japanese car manufacturer has once again surprised the world with the announcement of a new addition to its lineup: the Subaru Levorg Layback. This model combines SUV styling features with the versatility of an estate wagon, although the Levorg Layback, like its predecessor, is only available in some export markets such as Australia. This mid-size model debuted its second generation in 2020, and now it has been given several changes to turn it into a unique SUV that gives it an imposing and energetic stance.

The much-anticipated debut of the model is scheduled for this autumn, and more details are expected to be revealed over the next month about this exciting addition to the Subaru family. Although we still do not know many details about this new model, the company says orders are scheduled to begin on 7 September, but its launch date remains a mystery. At a time when SUVs lead the sales market, we hope Subaru has plans to sell this SUV in markets closer to ours.

Looking at the small preview we have been offered, we notice several design changes to the Levorg Layback. At the front, there have been changes and redesigns, most notably a wider grille and an aluminium-style trim that connects the elegant LED headlights. The bumper intakes have also been modified, giving it a more robust and adventurous appearance. The alloy wheels have also changed, featuring a new and attractive design. Inside, a unique shot reveals seats with two-tone leather upholstery and golden stitching, a detail that adds elegance and sophistication to the cabin.

With two engine options

Although Subaru has not yet revealed the exact technical specifications of the model, the Levorg Layback is expected to feature a specific suspension setup that will increase its ground clearance, enhancing its off-road credentials and SUV look. In addition, as with other models from the brand, this vehicle is expected to be equipped with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, a feature ideal for those seeking the versatility of a crossover wagon.

As for the powertrains, the regular model will offer two options of turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engines, both paired exclusively with a CVT gearbox. The first option will be a 1.8-litre engine producing 174 CV (130 kW), while the second option will be a 2.4-litre engine similar to the WRX’s, generating an impressive 271 CV (202 kW). The question that still remains is which of these engines will sit under the hood of the exciting Levorg Layback.

The much-anticipated debut of the model is scheduled for this autumn, and more details are expected to be revealed over the next month about this exciting addition to the Subaru family. The big question still to be answered is whether Subaru plans to keep the Layback exclusive to the Japanese market, since other regions will undoubtedly also be eager to enjoy the qualities of this model, a family vehicle that combines style, adventure and the brand’s legendary reliability.
