McLaren confirms more information about the P13

Six months after McLaren published the first sketch of its next model, the P13, the company’s CEO, Mike Flewitt, has offered more details in statements to Autocar. Its presentation will finally not take place at this year’s Paris Motor Show but at the Geneva show in 2015, while the commercial launch is scheduled for September.
The P13 will share the two-seater layout and mid-engine configuration of the 650S, as well as its carbon fibre structure, which will result in an equally similar size and design to the top model. The engineers will ensure that occupants get in and out much more comfortably in the P13 than in the 650S, since the former must be more practical for everyday use.
As for its behaviour, it will be in line with that philosophy and will provide a safer and at the same time more fun drive, in the style of rivals such as the Audi R8 V10 or the Porsche 911 Turbo S/GT3, according to Flewitt. As McLaren already announced in the first press release about the P13, it will retain the 650S’s 3.8 twin-turbo V8 engine, although it will be modified to slightly reduce its performance.
According to the manufacturer, the P13 will take about four seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (one more than the top model) and will reach a top speed of 298 km/h (the 650S goes up to 333 km/h). Its starting price will be 154,000 euros, 86,000 euros less than the 650S. Two years after the P13, in 2017, McLaren will launch the P15, which will sit below the P1.
