The McLaren P1 pre-production model is unveiled at a private event

This week, new details about the new McLaren P1 were revealed at a private event in New York, along with most of the model’s exterior lines.

After being shown to both the press and the public at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the successor to the McLaren F1, the P1, from the English firm based in Woking under Ron Dennis, has held a private event where new details and 97% of the exterior lines could be seen.

During the private event, which took place in New York earlier this week, a company spokesperson spoke about the minor changes and new features the production McLaren P1 will receive. There was talk of the introduction of vents at the front of the supercar to extract the air produced by one of the car’s three radiators.

The flat underbody, a crucial area of the P1’s aerodynamics, will feature a kind of mesh that will allow curious onlookers to see part of the vehicle’s mechanics. About this last point we still have no information beyond the fact that it will feature a supercharged V8 with around 800 hp, supported by an electric motor.

The most important thing about this new model will not be the nearly 1,000 hp that its powertrains will generate, but its aerodynamics, something of great importance when trying to resemble a Formula 1 car as closely as possible, which is also what Maranello is attempting with its F150 and Porsche with the 918 Spyder.
