The British supercar manufacturer McLaren has announced the production of a limited series of 20 units of its most exclusive model, the P1, in carbon fibre.

Demand for an edition like this appears to have been so strong that the manufacturer has ended up giving in to the demands of its select “clientele”, which has led it to take the step.

Going back to June of this year, a series of rumours pointed to a move of this kind by McLaren, which has finally materialised in its most powerful and expensive vehicle. It is by no means the first manufacturer to decide to release editions like this, as Pagani has been doing so for some time with both the Zonda and the Huayra. Even Bugatti has launched a limited run of its Veyron with exposed carbon fibre.

In fact, at Pagani it is simply one option among many on the list of extras offered to future owners of a model from the Italian manufacturer, at an approximate cost of 120,000 euros.

However, at McLaren they have decided to go a step further in terms of exclusivity, as only 20 units will wear such a spectacular “suit”. The news has caused such a stir that one of the world’s largest car collectors, Manny Khoshbin, has announced that he will send his Diamond White P1 back to the factory so that carbon fibre panels can be fitted.

The additional cost of this customisation is not yet known, but figures in the region of two hundred thousand euros (200,000€) are being mentioned. What is known is that of those 20 units, 7 will go to the American market, while the other 13 will be distributed around the globe.
