Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the flagship of the GT range that hits the track

A first look at the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series gives us the chance to take a good look at this car, which is built to move around the track with ease and power.

Mercedes-AMG GT BLACK SERIES

Since 2006, Mercedes has used the designation Black Series for its most daring and most powerful models. Several models carrying this name are prepared to stand out as road cars, yet they unleash their full potential on circuits. And now a new top-of-the-range GT arrives from the brand, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which far surpasses the car that previously held that title.

The V8 engine, the heart of the AMG GT Black Series

This model, which becomes the most powerful and sporty in the brand’s lineup, is fitted with a variant of the 4.0-litre AMG V8 twin-turbo engine featuring dry-sump lubrication. It has been reworked to suit this new car, and so many changes were made that it has received a new designation: M178 LS2.

After the modifications it has received, this powertrain delivers 730 CV of power, reached in a range between 6,700 and 6,900 rpm. The engine’s peak torque is set at 800 Nm between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. It features new camshafts, and the exhaust system has been modified to achieve better engine performance.

All the changes made are aimed at making the car far more efficient and at surprising you as it moves around the track. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G gearbox sends power to the rear axle thanks to its dual-clutch design and the seven speeds the transmission manages. But this gearbox has been modified to make driving even more engaging.

The engine and gearbox are integrated through the so-called Torque Tube. This is made of carbon fibre, which reduces the car’s weight compared with models that use this system in aluminium. The system improves the integration of the drivetrain and enhances how the car performs.

Aerodynamic design

The MercedeS-AMG GT was already an attractive car with very high potential. But with the Black Series treatment it has become something even more intense. More carbon fibre has been added to the car to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics, with air outlets, a new rear spoiler and many more small modifications designed to let the driver enjoy the sensations it delivers at the wheel.

The car is full of details that elevate this luxury machine, which also features a redesigned interior and optional extras intended to bring out all the excitement on track. Among these are a rollover protection system, 4-point seat belts for driver and passenger, and a 2 kg fire extinguisher.

As you can see, this is a very appealing model that lets you enjoy the great performance of this car, which enters a new incarnation and is even more intense. To get one, you have to travel to Germany, since for now there is no price for Spain. In its country of origin it will cost 335,240 euros, so in Spain it will be fairly similar.
