Not long ago we heard the incredible news of a Class A AMG for the next generation, and now it’s the turn of a Class B AMG, a dream come true thanks to the hard work of a group of people whose motivation was basically to demonstrate how feasible it was to fit a V8 into the engine bay of a small Class B.

From this idea came this spectacular Mercedes B55 AMG, which is basically a B200 CDI whose diesel engine has been swapped for the far more exciting petrol, designed to power a huge 5.5-litre V8 capable of delivering 388 hp, a power output that will undoubtedly make this small MPV a thoroughly exciting vehicle.

Naturally, an increase in power of more than 248 hp requires changes throughout the structure, something the engineers behind this creation had to take into account, and which are present, for example, in a new rear driveline thanks to the incorporation of a new rear axle taken from an Mercedes E430 Estate, as well as a new 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox.

As for dynamic improvements, there is naturally a new suspension much better matched to the rest of the system, a far more powerful braking system, and the essential 18-inch alloy wheels shod with huge 235/40 tyres at the front and 255/35 at the rear.

The result is a vehicle capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds or exceeding 250 km/h in top speed. Figures that are simply frightening for certain road sybarites, who would watch their splendid sports cars literally humiliated by a “simple” Class B.
