Mercedes-Benz adds a new plug-in hybrid with the new Class B 250 e featuring EQ Power technology

Mercedes continues on its path towards the electrification of its models, expanding its range now with the new Class B 250 e, a new plug-in hybrid variant with EQ Power technology for its compact MPV, a model aimed at families who want something different from the current compact SUVs and who will benefit from the “0 emissions” environmental label from the DGT when purchasing it.

As you can imagine, the most important changes in the Mercedes Class B 250 e are under its bonnet, which houses the already well-known 1,330 cc petrol engine from the brand (also present in the Renault range), which works together with an electric motor that produces 75 kW of power, resulting in a combined system power of 218 CV along with a torque of 450 Nm. This allows the Class B 250 e to reach 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and sets a top speed of 235 km/h.

The hybrid system also consists of a water-cooled battery developed by Daimler, which has a capacity of 15.6 kWh and weighs 150 kg, and which is housed under the rear seats. Mercedes claims that this battery layout will barely reduce the boot capacity of the Class B 250 e, and to achieve this Mercedes has installed an exhaust line that ends in the centre, beneath the vehicle floor, allowing the silencer to be integrated into the central tunnel itself and freeing up the space needed to fit the battery.

In terms of figures, the Mercedes-Benz Class B 250 e achieves fuel consumption ranging between 1.4 and 1.1 l/100 km, while CO2 emissions are between 31 and 25 g/km and, in terms of electric consumption, this ranges between 24.4 and 21.3 kWh/100 km. Thanks to this, we can cover between 61 and 70 km in fully electric mode without exceeding 140 km/h and, once the battery is depleted, we can charge it fully in 1 hour and 45 minutes using alternating current from the Mercedes 7.4 kW wallbox, while using direct current we can reach 80% charge in just 25 minutes.

It should be noted that, taking advantage of the MBUX system from Mercedes, the Class B 250 e incorporates the new driving programmes “Battery Level” and “Electric“, the latter allowing selection of five different levels of energy recuperation via the gearbox paddles. In addition to these two programmes, there are also the other three, “Comfort”, “ECO” and “Sport”, with which we can find a balance between the combustion and electric motors or tilt the balance towards one or the other depending on driving needs.

The new Mercedes-Benz Class B 250 e is now available to order at the brand’s Spanish dealerships, with a starting price set at 43,025 euros.
