If you are a technology fan, you will no doubt be looking forward to January, when the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) opens its doors in Las Vegas and showcases much of the technology that will arrive soon. But CES has stopped being an event exclusively for the most surprising gadgets and robots, making room too for car brands to reveal the technology they are working on and to give free rein to their imagination.

Today, many manufacturers do not want to miss this event that opens the year, and among those present is Mercedes-Benz, presenting a prototype that could have been taken straight from an upcoming science fiction film. Curiously, the creators of the movie Avatar have collaborated on its design. It is the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR, a concept that hinted at its arrival some time ago and now finally sees the light, showing us what the automotive industry may bring us in the future, and more specifically Mercedes.

Although the Mercedes signature is undoubtedly present, the brand has wanted to create a completely different design language, one that has taken nature as its inspiration in order to create a vehicle as respectful of it as possible. Externally, its elongated silhouette stands out, with a strong emphasis on the central arch which, in addition, creates a fully panoramic atmosphere inside; as well as enormous wheels that protrude beyond the bodywork and, at the rear, a cover made up of 33 moving fins that are also bionic, allowing the Vision AVTR to interact with its surroundings.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is practically visible in its entirety from the outside thanks to its transparent doors, through which we enter to find a prototype that retains its futuristic ambience and becomes even more minimalist due to the absence of physical buttons. On the central console, the point where we must place the palm of our hand is illuminated, so that the Vision AVTR can read various biometric data and also control all the vehicle’s functions. It should be said that its interior, continuing with its inspiration from nature, has been crafted using recycled materials from bottles and used fabrics, such as the leather used to upholster its seats.

Mechanically, as it could not be otherwise, the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR uses electric motors that give it an output of 475 CV, linked to a battery with which it can cover around 700 km and that can be fully charged in about 15 minutes. It should be noted that Mercedes has paid special attention to the design of the battery so that it is environmentally sustainable, so its creation is produced through organic cells based on graphene obtained by chemical means, and its own materials are compostable so that at the end of their useful life they generate no waste for the environment.
