Mercedes GLE 350d and 400d: now available in Spain from €74,800 and €84,800 respectively

Just like the rest of the segments in the automotive sector, the SUV segment continues to see strong progress in every respect. This is something Mercedes wanted to demonstrate with the new GLE, a model that, after enjoying considerable success in previous generations, has taken on board all the innovations of its siblings. With this premise, the German brand provided us with a GLE conceived around a new design language and a technological arsenal worthy of the times we live in, two features we will also be able to enjoy here in Spain now that Mercedes has opened orders for the 350d and 400d variants that join the range.

A few months ago, we told you that the star brand had already made the new GLE available to the Spanish market in its 300d and 450 versions, but the range of options has now expanded. As expected, Mercedes has added two new diesel engines, which will coexist with the future hybrid variants and the AMG-badged models that the brand will gradually introduce.

These two engines are here to reaffirm the presence of diesel powerplants in the SUV segment, a type of car that is beginning to adopt more petrol engines thanks to lower consumption and emissions. However, both the Mercedes GLE 350d and 400d are aimed at a specific audience, also demonstrating that it is possible to build engines on that foundation and avoid high levels of pollution thanks to current technology.

This is reflected in the presence of an additional SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalyst, combined with an ammonia emissions neutralisation system (ASC). In this way, Mercedes has ensured that both six-cylinder diesel engines comply with the Euro 6d standard, which becomes binding from 2020.

With this premise, we are faced with two new powerplants that are not only designed to meet our needs, but also to offer a greater commitment to the environment. Both engines feature a turbocharged inline six-cylinder configuration capable of producing 272 CV in the 350d variant and 330 CV in the 400d. At the same time, the more modest version delivers 600 Nm of torque, a figure that rises to 700 Nm in the most powerful one.

This is how Mercedes intends to complete the new GLE family, a model that will be offered with a wide range of powerplants designed to move it with precision and ease. An outlay of €74,800 will be required to purchase the 350d variant of the German SUV, a price that rises to €84,800 if we opt for the more powerful 400d variant.
