Mercedes invests 500 million euros in a new engine factory in Poland

Daimler has just officially announced a 500-million-euro investment for the creation of a new production plant in Poland, in the city of Jawor, more than 400 kilometres west of Warsaw and very close to the Czech Republic.
This plant will be responsible for producing four-cylinder engines, both diesel and petrol, for the passenger cars of the star brand. This project, which represents the first factory of Mercedes in Poland, will create hundreds of jobs in the Polish city. It is expected that the first engines will begin production in Jawor in 2019. The Polish factory would be the first Mercedes engine plant to distribute its powertrains across Europe.
“The future employees of the engine plant in Poland will be prepared for their new tasks with comprehensive training courses,” Daimler states in its press release. As was to be expected, the Polish government is delighted with the agreement with Daimler. Economy Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that: “the project to build a new engine plant in Poland by Daimler AG is proof of the good health of our economy.”

This is not the first time Mercedes has been linked to the Polish country, although it is the first time it has been done officially. A few months ago there were rumours about a possible Daimler plant in Poland, although in that case the talk was of car production rather than engines.
The manufacturer has not yet commented on the matter, neither confirming nor denying those rumours. Those rumours suggested that the supposed car plant in Poland would assemble the E-Class, C-Class and the GLC crossover. On the other hand, we recall that Daimler has a factory in Romania that makes gearboxes. The engine plant in Beijing, China, only produces for the local market.
