Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV: luxury in abundance in a 100% electric format

Maybach’s first fully electric model has just made its debut and is well placed to become one of the kings of the luxury SUV segment

Coinciding with the Shanghai Motor Show 2023, Mercedes-Maybach has just officially unveiled its first large, fully electric luxury SUV. Based on the EQS SUV, it adds a very special touch through the use of extremely high-quality materials, perfect craftsmanship and exclusive details.

Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, stated the great importance for the brand’s history of the arrival of the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, with which, they claim, they are redefining automotive excellence in the era of electric mobility, combining “a first-class electric driving experience with the aura of the extraordinary that characterises Maybach”.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV

The most luxurious electric SUV on the market

As regards its design, the new Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV features the star logo at the centre of its bonnet, a luxurious Black Panel grille with chrome vertical slats and a bumper with an air intake, which also features several chrome inserts for greater visual continuity.

Together with the Digital Light headlights, which are now standard equipment, the new Maybach SUV features an elegant LED chrome strip that also carries the Maybach inscription discreetly incorporated in the centre, offering a much more distinguished look than that of the standard EQS SUV.

Multiple distinctive details

In addition to the optional two-tone configuration so typical of Maybach, available in five combinations (high-tech silver/obsidian black, high-tech silver/nautical blue, obsidian black/selenite grey, obsidian black/alcalahari gold and velvet brown/onyx black), the EQS SUV features elegant chrome frames on the side windows and chrome trim on the B-pillar, as well as alloy and forged wheels of 21 or 22 inches depending on preference, with exclusive Maybach logos on the hubs and the Maybach emblem on the D-pillar.

At the rear of the luxurious SUV, the horizontal rear lights span its full width from side to side as on the standard EQS SUV, although this version features the Maybach inscription and several chrome elements on the tailgate, rear skirt and spoiler lip.

Inside, the MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system, included as standard, now adds a new animated display exclusive to Maybach, a rose gold instrument surround typical of Maybach and four seats to offer a very high level of comfort. On the backs of the front seats, the Maybach EQS SUV offers rear passengers 11.6-inch screens with multiple functions, the removable MBUX tablet and a large selection of different sustainably processed leathers.

Omnipresent

Once again, the Maybach emblem appears in numerous places inside the new EQS SUV, such as on the stainless steel pedals, on the headrest cushions, on the backs of the front seats, in the footwell at the rear and on the interior trim of the tailgate.

The Maybach team wanted the experience in the rear seats to be on another level, thanks to armchair-style seats with ventilation, massage function, heating for the neck and shoulders, calf massage, heated cup holders or even a cooling compartment with silver champagne flutes.

Cabin insulation has also been another of the aspects most carefully developed by Mercedes-Maybach, using thicker insulation in key parts of the bodywork and underbody, completing the experience with a Burmester 4D surround sound system with no fewer than 15 speakers in total.

Powering the SUV are two permanent-magnet synchronous motors developing a power output of 484 kW (649 CV) and 950 Nm of torque. The battery powering the electric motors offers a range of up to 600 kilometres (provisional figure), and in terms of performance, it will be capable of 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.
