Mercedes Maybach S680 4MATIC, the luxury saloon with a V12 heart

Within luxury brands there is always a range that raises luxury up a notch. In the case of Mercedes, we find the Mercedes Maybach S680 4MATIC, a saloon that sits within the S-Class range, but which elevates everything found in it a little further. So much so that we are talking about a luxury saloon that far surpasses the model it is based on.

It is a saloon of large proportions, reaching almost 5.5 metres in length. Its long bonnet already indicates that this is an elegant car and that beneath it hides an engine that is rather uncommon. Aesthetically it has a better image than the Mercedes Maybach S-Class on which it is based, and adds a more elegant touch.

A luxurious cabin designed for comfort

The interior of this model is designed so that its occupants enjoy superlative comfort. Nappa leather is used for the upholstery and also in other areas of the cabin, such as the walls and even the ceiling. The comfortable rear seats offer occupants a space in which to relax or even work in comfort.

At the front, there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.8-inch multimedia screen. The front seats feature a massage system, heating and ventilation. A four-zone climate control system provides comfort to the front and rear spaces, and wireless front and rear chargers help keep mobile devices charged.

As for the information and entertainment system, there is the MBUX system, which in the rear offers two 11.6-inch screens and a tablet. The audio system consists of a Burmester 4D surround sound system. The luxurious effect is complemented by an ambient lighting system with 16 colours.

V12 engine

To move the 2,350 kg that this imposing vehicle weighs, a 6.0-litre V12 engine has been relied upon. This powertrain delivers 612 CV and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. That said, it is an engine that lacks any kind of electrification and only has a petrol particulate filter to reduce emissions.

The Mercedes Maybach S680 4MATIC is the first car fitted with the V12 engine to receive 4MATIC all-wheel drive, so this is a rather special model. Among other things, this model includes four-wheel steering, as the rear wheels can turn up to an angle of 4.5º. A greater angle of up to 10º can be chosen for an additional cost.

The acceleration of this model is 4.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 250 km/h. Consumption is in line with the category of the V12 engine and amounts to 13.3 and 14.1 litres per 100 kilometres.

As for the price, no official figure has yet been set, but it will be around 183,000 euros, without discounts or promotions.
