Mercedes-Maybach will celebrate its centenary in grand style with the limited Edition 100

Maybach is celebrating its centenary this year and, before the year is out, will commemorate it with the limited Edition 100 for its models

Maybach-Motorenbau was founded back in 1909, but it took a few more years for the German company to present what would be its first model, which it did during the Berlin Motor Show in September 1921. Now, under the umbrella of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach will celebrate its centenary in grand style with a limited edition called Edition 100.

The Mercedes-Maybach model range is not very extensive; in fact, it comes down to just the S-Class and the GLS, so, as you may have guessed, the Edition 100 will be available for both models, which, as you will also imagine, will be built as a limited run of just 100 units for the whole world, practically to order, so that the first units reach dealerships early next year, although the price has not yet been revealed.

What we will find in this Edition 100, both for the S-Class and the GLS, focuses basically on exclusive styling that will be similar for both models. As you can see in the images, their bodies have been painted in the lower section in High-Tech Silver and, for the bonnet, roof, mirror housings and boot lid, in Nautical Blue. To tell that this is the Edition 100, the inscription appears on the C-pillars (for the S-Class) and on the D-pillar (for the GLS), but it also appears on the wheels, which now feature a new silver finish.

Changes continue inside as well, although, as on the exterior, they focus exclusively on new shades, because the design, quality and refinement of Mercedes-Maybach models do not need many modifications, given that as standard you already find features such as heated seats with massage function and multimedia screens for its occupants. Thus, the interior upholstery is dominated by leather and, in this Edition 100, it is combined in the colours Pearl Silver and white Cristal White.

Where there will be no changes is in its engines. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Edition 100 uses a 6,000 cc V12 that delivers 612 CV and a torque of 1,000 Nm; while the Mercedes-Maybach GLS Edition 100 uses a 4,000 cc V8 that delivers 410 CV and a torque of 730 Nm, although at specific moments, thanks to the EQ Boost technology, it has an extra 16 CV peak. Both engines use a nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels thanks to the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
