MG is going downhill: it sold 242 vehicles in 2011
MG is struggling to get back on its feet, and this year appears to have been one of the worst in its history, with only 242 vehicles sold over the year. In November alone, it sold just 7 units.

With China’s SAIC now in control of the historic MG for some time, the variety and quality of new models is not as extensive as the public expects. And if we consider the fact that MG has a significant Chinese influence, things do not improve: in Great Britain, MG still does not reach its historical sales peaks, back when life was good for it. Today, it is only a shadow of what it once was, and that shows in its sales.
According to the British society of manufacturers, MG has sold only 242 vehicles since January of this year, and in November only seven units; 4 MG 6 and 3 MG TF.
Recently, EuroNCAP rated the MG6 four stars, within the latest tests carried out by the body, showing that it has reached a certain level of quality within the rather poor results that Chinese brands usually get. But the problem does not seem to be safety; rather, technologically they are quite outdated compared with similar models. As an example, it is worth noting that they have been using almost the same engine since 1988 for the MG6. The most attractive MG TC, the brand’s roadster, has not had major changes since 2002.
While we wait for the long-promised MG 3, the brand’s upcoming compact, I’m afraid they will have no choice but to weather the storm with their old models.
