MINI will be more connected than ever thanks to the incorporation of a 4G SIM card

MINI has just unveiled the new MINI Connected, a system that uses 4G SIM cards to expand connectivity and functionality for the customer.

The new technology is focused on reducing the functions of smartphones to a single device, so that everything is contained within one and the same system. Each company develops different bases to keep all features intact, and one of them is the car. Indeed, today’s vehicles increasingly seek to get closer to the world of technology, and the new MINI is a clear example of this. The German compact is updated with the incorporation of a 4G SIM card, with the aim of offering greater connectivity to its occupants.

MINI has always been at the forefront in all aspects related to the world of motoring, but on this occasion the BMW Group has wanted to go further. Thanks to the incorporation of this new card, MINI will offer great doses of mobility and connectivity to the driver and to other participants in that interaction. This is because MINI’s innovations will not only be focused on whoever has it under their command, but also on the other passengers.

This technology, which is more than familiar to every user of a latest-generation mobile phone, faces a great leap, since it is set to offer its services to a completely new sector, the automotive world. However, MINI has known how to take advantage of the virtues of 4G cards and adapt them to complement a better experience behind the wheel.

The German firm will offer three different MINI Connected packages, ranging from the most basic, called Connected Media, through Connected Navigation, and culminating in the highest of the three, Connected Navigation Plus. One of the main functions is to give the customer an expansion of the mapping for the navigation system and, at the same time, improve the connectivity and functionality of these systems.

This new technological level also requires the mobile device, which acts as the MINI’s remote control. The customer of the compact will be able to preselect destinations or routes they wish to take – known as Send To Car – and will also be offered the option of locking the vehicle from a distance at which the key’s radius cannot locate the MINI or sending ourselves reminders, with the aim of keeping better organised.

This evolution of MINI Connected will be available from March 2018 and will be offered on the three-door and five-door models and on the convertible version. Thanks to these new technological relationships we will be able to avoid resorting to several devices to carry out tasks that are perfectly accessible through a single element, in this case the MINI.
