New Audi SQ2: the update of the sporty compact SUV arrives

The update of the Audi Q2 now also reaches the sportiest version, the Audi SQ2, which receives all the design and equipment improvements introduced across the rest of the range. Where nothing has changed is the power output of the 2.0 TFSI engine, rated at 300 CV, which remains the same as in the road test of the Audi SQ2 we carried out before this update.
Little needs to be added about one of the best four-cylinder petrol engines, which is fitted to many models in the group, in various power outputs. In the SQ2, the 300 CV and a maximum torque of 400 Nm between 2,000 and 5,300 rpm allow the sporty SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
Quattro traction with new clutch
Power reaches the road through the extremely quick S tronic dual-clutch gearbox with seven speeds, and through quattro traction. And this is where we find one of the SQ2’s mechanical novelties: a new generation of electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, lighter and at the same time more efficient at distributing torque between the axles.

As standard, the S sport suspension lowers the body height by 20 mm compared with the standard suspension of the rest of the range, and features specific damping calibration. Also standard are progressive steering (it becomes more direct the further the steering wheel is turned), the Audi drive select with five driving modes, and 18-inch wheels with 235/45 tyres.
Now available with Matrix LED headlights
Externally, the SQ2 adopts over the rest of the versions the features that identify the S models: a lower grille, large air intakes, in this case with silver trim, new bumpers, aluminium-finish mirror housings… Ten body colours are available, and it can be personalised with the black style package. As an alternative to the LED headlights fitted as standard, the SQ2 can now be equipped with Matrix LED headlights, which have already ceased to be a high-end option at Audi and have become practically standard across all models.

Inside, dominated by dark tones, new materials arrive on the door trims and upholstery options, with Dinamica microfibre replacing Alcantara. Standard equipment includes MMI Navigation plus, parking assistance, reversing camera, alarm, climate control, sport seats, cruise control and multifunction steering wheel, plus a mobile phone interface. The digital instrumentation Audi Virtual Cockpit features a dedicated sport display mode.

As part of the wide range of driver assistance systems, the new SQ2 can now be equipped with adaptive cruise assist, which not only maintains speed relative to the vehicle ahead, but also helps the driver by keeping the car within its lane.
The price of the new Audi SQ2 for the Spanish market is 52,600 euros. First customer deliveries are scheduled for early 2021.
