New Ford Mondeo Evos: saloon, SUV or electric crossover?

The American firm has patented the name Ford Mondeo Evos

We know that Ford has prioritised crossover-style vehicles, whether conventional SUVs or crossovers, over saloons or compact cars.

Although the Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta are doing very well, the Ford Mondeo maintains its status within the brand’s saloons, even though its figures are beginning to suffer against updates or new SUV-style models such as the new Ford Kuga and the arrival of the all-new Ford Puma, which has nothing to do with that compact sports car of the last century.

Either way, the website Ford Authority reports that the manufacturer has registered the trademark Ford Mondeo Evos in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand, for Europe and Oceania.

The name would cover land transport vehicles with conventional engines and land transport vehicles with electric motors, as well as parts or components for automobiles.

What body style and engine will the Ford Mondeo Evos have?

Before we venture to predict what car the Ford Mondeo Evos will be, we need some background, since, as the Evos, a conceptual prototype had already appeared in 2011.

A car which, with a coupé body, showed what would ultimately become the core design lines of the Ford Mondeo and which evolved into the current Ford Mustang.

It should be noted that this prototype was born under the “kinetic design” concept, a design philosophy of Ford from which came the first-generation S-MAX and Kuga, the second-generation C-MAX, the aforementioned Mondeo, and the previous-generation Focus and Fiesta on sale worldwide.

Given what has been said about the brand’s commercial strategy, which Ford prioritises SUVs, it would not be far-fetched to imagine an evolution of the brand’s reference model in the D segment towards a large SUV or a crossover that takes the saloon philosophy and adapts it to a raised, SUV-style body.

Likewise, the engine used could be key to the Mondeo Evos name. As was already announced earlier this year, the full or partial electrification of the range and of the new Ford models.

Given that the new Ford Mondeo hybrid is a reality, the next logical step is the arrival of an electric saloon that would replace or complement the line-up of cars that do not depend on fossil fuels to move.

Either way, we expect a new proposal that breaks with what we have seen so far, even among the prototypes: a vehicle that previews the brand’s near future, aimed at meeting the current demands of a clientele drawn to SUV bodies and fully or partially electrified cars.
