New Hyundai Tucson: the 7 most important driver assistance systems in the SUV
The new Hyundai Tucson features some of the most advanced active safety technologies on the market.
In terms of technology, the new Hyundai TUCSON has taken a significant leap forward compared to its predecessor. The compact SUV from the South Korean brand features a renewed package of driver assistance technologies. We are talking about the Hyundai SmartSense, an option that, in addition to making life on board easier and reducing the risk of accidents, includes the latest active safety technologies. This package includes, for example, an intelligent cruise control that has truly evolved, a system that adjusts the vehicle’s speed to that of the other cars travelling on the same road. These are the 7 most notable driver assistance systems in the new Hyundai Tucson.
1. Adaptive cruise control
The new Hyundai Tucson’s intelligent cruise control is capable of adapting the vehicle’s speed to the traffic situation. In this way, the driver only needs to select a cruising speed, and the system itself will autonomously act on the brake and the accelerator to avoid rear-end collisions.

When the TUCSON approaches another vehicle travelling at a lower speed in the same lane, it reduces speed and adapts it to that of the vehicle ahead to maintain a safe distance.
Once the system detects that the lane is clear again, it accelerates autonomously to reach the speed set by the user. This technology not only increases driver comfort, as there is no need to worry about operating the pedals, but also significantly improves safety, since it prevents us from getting too close to the vehicle ahead, maintaining an optimal distance at all times.
2. Emergency braking assist system (FCA)
This system would apply maximum braking pressure if it detects that the driver is not going to react to a possible frontal collision. It uses a series of sensors and cameras to detect the presence of cars, pedestrians, cyclists or other obstacles that may cross in front of the car on the road.

3. Lane departure warning (LKA)
This assistant warns the driver through a steering wheel vibration and a sound alert when the car moves from one lane to another without signalling the manoeuvre, that is, on those occasions when it has potentially changed lanes unintentionally.
4. Road sign recognition system (ISLW)
This assistant recognises road signs thanks to the use of the car’s various cameras and sensors to alert the driver to the different parameters relevant to driving: speed, direction of travel…
5. Driver fatigue detector (DAW)
This assistant helps monitor the driver’s behaviour and detect nodding off or signs of tiredness.
6. Perimeter vision system (Surround View Monitor – SVM)
It uses a series of cameras to provide a 360° view during reversing manoeuvres.
7. Active high beam system (HBA)
This technology automatically switches the high beams on and off to avoid dazzling other drivers.
