New lap record for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS on the "Green Hell"
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR, a tuned version by Mantley Racing, has lapped the Nürburgring in a record time: 6 minutes 40.3 seconds.
Porsche has set a new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit: the Porsche GT2 RS MR with 700 hp, a tuned version of the sports car by Mantley Racing, has completed a lap of the “Green Hell” in 6:40.3 minutes. No other road-legal vehicle has been as fast around the Nürburgring as this Porsche GT2 RS MR. Lars Kern was at the wheel of the car and achieved a new feat for the Stuttgart manufacturer. The Porsche test driver had already set a record lap in September 2017, with a standard Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
“The drive was a lot of fun,” says Lars Kern. This 31-year-old driver knows the ‘Ring’ perfectly from the many tests, record attempts and races he has done there. “The balance of the vehicle is also very good with the new kit. I didn’t take any big risks to go fast. I only had one attempt, because it was already getting dark, but it worked first time.”

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is equipped with the new high-performance kit from Manthey-Racing, a package that includes a tuning specifically designed for the characteristics of the Nordschleife. The modifications mainly affect the chassis and aerodynamics, but the engineers also focused on maintaining the characteristics of the car that make it suitable for road use. The car was fitted with a racing bucket seat for safety reasons, but this modification provides no weight advantage.
“In this test we simply wanted to evaluate the vehicle’s potential once again. The result was impressive. It really is a fabulous time. It undoubtedly demonstrates once again the incredible capabilities of this sports car,” admits the head of motorsport and GT vehicles at Porsche.

In autumn conditions, although dry, Lars Kern unlocked the enormous potential of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR on his record lap.
“We were keeping an eye on the weather conditions and had doubts about whether it would be possible. We did not want to take any risks if it rained or the track was slightly damp,” says Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of Motorsport and GT Vehicles.
