On the occasion of the New York Auto Show 2009, which opens today, Land Rover has unveiled the restyling of its pure off-roader, the Land Rover Discovery 4, which receives small changes while keeping its image up to date.

There is also news in the powertrain range, as a new engine and transmission appear. The new TDV6 3.0 twin-turbo diesel engine, with 600 Nm of torque and 245 CV of power, is now more efficient, with a homologated average consumption of 9.4 l/100 km (a 9% reduction in consumption), and it complies with the new Euro V standard.

The new TDV6 3.0 engine is paired with the new ZF HP28 six-speed automatic gearbox. The engine also delivers its maximum torque from 2000 rpm. In addition, the braking system has been changed, with larger brakes given the increase in power the Discovery 4 has received.

The Terrain Response system has also been updated, and the e-Terrain system appears, designed to reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Intelligent Power System Management (IPSM), of Jaguar, includes Intelligent Regenerative Charging, a technology thanks to which the alternator can charge the battery when it is most economical to do so, for example at idle and not during acceleration.

As for the aesthetic changes, the rear lights are now LED, the front has also undergone small changes, and the interior features a redesigned center console with a somewhat more modern and more luxurious look than the previous version of the Discovery. For the Discovery 4, 20-inch 10-spoke wheels factory-fitted have been introduced as an option, with 19-inch wheels fitted as standard.
