New Nissan Leaf: a showcase of technology on board

The new Nissan Leaf has been slightly updated in its latest generation. The changes have not been radical, but they have ensured that the Nissan electric car remains on the list of best-sellers in the alternative-propulsion segment for a long time to come. However, what really stands out about the Nissan among the most important changes made to the Leaf is the long list of consumer technology on board, available to driver and passengers alike.

The Nissan Leaf has improved its batteries, increasing its range to almost 200 kilometres. It will feature new styling details such as newly designed alloy wheels, specific colours or new upholstery. In addition, a new purchase option has been introduced that allows access to the Leaf from 15,000 euros, through battery rental, at a price starting from 79 euros a month.

But let’s go into a little more detail on the technology of the new Leaf, as it plays a key role in the new Nissan Leaf. At its heart is its CarWings telematics and entertainment system, connected to the outside world through an integrated SIM card. This system means the driver doesn’t have to use their own smartphone to provide connectivity to the car, and it also allows total control via a seven-inch touchscreen.

The new Leaf offers even more for technology lovers: asking the car to check its charge status before setting off on a journey, sending scheduled routes from a smartphone or computer via Google Send To Car, automatic updating of the list of nearest charging points, a personal/global energy-saving log of the Nissan Leaf shown on screen, a 360-degree overhead camera to make parking easier, an integrated RSS reader, along with up-to-date weather information also delivered via RSS.

In short, from those cars that had little or no technology (let’s not forget those first “on-board computers”), we now move on to cars that are always connected, the evolution that is inevitable.
