Despite its confusing name, the Peugeot 408 we bring you this time is the sedan version of the Peugeot 308 and in principle will only go on sale in the Chinese and Latin American markets. Even so, the launch in Beijing of the new Peugeot 408 already confirms definitively that the new 407 will be called the 508, and that this mid-size sedan is not ruled out from reaching the old continent.

At 4.68 metres long, it has considerable dimensions, and with interior space as its trump card, since besides being very spacious inside it also offers a good boot with a capacity of 526 litres. Furthermore, the build quality is expected to match European standards, because, according to Peugeot in the Spanish press release, it was also designed in Peugeot Europe.

Besides the design that follows the lines of Peugeot, the 408 will also come with a comprehensive equipment list, including items such as ABS+EBD, several airbags, air conditioning, and even the best-equipped versions will get ESP. Many of the elements that are optional on the European 308 will also reach the 408 (inside they are practically identical), such as the bi-xenon headlights with cornering light function, parking sensors, navigation system, among other features.

Given the model’s naming, its build quality and, above all, its equipment, it would not be surprising if it were launched in Europe as a rival to the Renault Fluence, especially when the replacement for the Peugeot 407 grows larger and more luxurious than the current one, leaving a gap in the range that this mid-size sedan would fit into perfectly. Prices in China range from 12,000 euros to 17,000 euros (approx.), so if it reaches Europe it could be around 20,000 euros (even below the level of the Fluence).
