New Polestar 2: facelift, more performance and up to 635 km of range

Polestar updates its saloon with a 5-door body, the Polestar 2, which reached the market in 2019. Now, in the new MY24 edition, the brand takes the opportunity to carry out a light facelift, add more powerful engines and higher-capacity batteries, and also add to the range a version with a single rear-wheel-drive motor.
New-generation electric motors
Unlike what usually happens when a brand renews a model that has barely been on sale for 4 years, in the case of the new Polestar 2 there are many mechanical novelties, in clear parallel with what Volvo has just announced with its new XC40 and C40 Recharge electric models. All versions of the Polestar 2 now incorporate new-generation electric motors. The single-motor version becomes rear-wheel drive, and power increases from 170 kW to 220 kW with a maximum torque of 490 Nm. This allows the 0-100 km/h acceleration to be cut by more than a second, stopping the clock at 6.2 seconds in the case of the Long Range version, with an 82 kWh battery made by CATL and a range of up to 635 km, an improvement of more than 80 km.

As the entry version, the Polestar 2 Standard range uses a 69 kWh battery made by LG Chem, which achieves a range of up to 518 km. The maximum charging power in this case is up to 135 kW, which rises to 205 kW in all variants with the higher-capacity battery.
In the case of the two-motor versions, a new motor on the rear axle is also used. Power in this case increases to 310 kW, or up to 350 kW with the Performance package, which can be obtained after purchase as a software update. A new recalibration of the propulsion system allows, in the two-motor versions, the front-axle motor to disconnect when it is not needed. In these versions, together with the new batteries, the range gain is spectacular: up to 592 km, 105 km more.
Design changes and more equipment
Beyond the mechanical changes, the new Polestar range receives slight aesthetic modifications affecting the so-called SmartZone at the front and the 20-inch alloy wheels on the version with the Performance package, now with the same design as the Polestar 3.

As for equipment, the 360-degree camera, exterior rear-view mirrors with automatic anti-dazzle system, a wireless phone charger, and the BLIS (blind spot monitoring) assistance systems, rear cross-traffic alert with braking assist and rear collision risk warning are fitted as standard on all versions.
