New record! The Tesla Model S surpasses 1,000 kilometres of range
A group of Tesla owners in Italy manages to cover more than 1,000 kilometres in a Tesla Model S; they took more than 24 hours at an average speed of 77 km/h

The previous range record set by a Tesla Model S stood at 901 kilometres, a mark after which Elon Musk himself warned that the car was ready to exceed 1,000 kilometres on a single charge. The CEO of Tesla was right.
A group of Tesla owners, Tesla Owners Italia, has managed to break a new range record with the electric saloon: 1,078 kilometres covered on a single charge. The record was registered using the hypermiling technique, a driving method that seeks to cover the maximum number of kilometres with a given vehicle.

The record was announced by Tesla Owners Italia on social media and was accompanied by an image showing the data that sums up the incredible feat achieved by this group of owners. These are the most significant ones:
- 1,078 kilometres covered on a single charge
- 98.4 kWh of total energy consumed
- 91 Wh/km average consumption (the usual consumption of a Tesla Model S is around 190 Wh/km).
Logically, a record of this kind cannot be achieved without practising an “ultra-conservative” style of driving. The average speed at which the record was set was below 40 km/h. On the final stretch, the Tesla Model S 100D in question covered a total of 77 km in 2.04 hours, which means it travelled at an average speed of 37 km/h during that period. Although the figure has not been provided by Tesla Owners Italia, the total duration of the journey exceeded 24 hours.

At the moment when they passed the 1,000-kilometre barrier, the feat was broadcast live on Facebook by its protagonists. Here is the video:
