The Audi A3 will lose its three-door body style to make it more practical
The brand says the three-door body of this model is not popular and sales have dropped, so they will replace it with a five-door version

It seems that times of change are coming for the Audi A3, which will disappear from the German brand’s lineup when the fourth generation is launched, scheduled for next year, 2019. Apparently, the brand wants to get rid of this body style because it has become a configuration less and less requested among future buyers, so it has been dropped from the model range. In exchange, we will gain a new five-door body style, which would arrive a little later.
Eliminating the three-door body, which is in little demand, will help the company cut costs by focusing production on a body type that is more sought after. This body would be replaced by another configuration, the liftback, that is, with a rear hatch that includes the rear window, so that it opens together with it, and also having a more sloped roofline than a traditional hatchback.

The only version of the Audi A3 that will keep the look of the classic hatchback will be the A3 Sportback, although the next generation will be this five-door model, keeping the same size, with some changes to update the model. Besides this one, the new saloon version will be presented a year later, in 2020. This version will have a slightly larger size and more legroom for rear passengers.
The third body style available for the A3 will be that new configuration that keeps the name A3 Sportback, but changes the rear with this new liftback look, which will stand out from the more upright hatchback. This liftback version aims to compete with the models announced by Mercedes-Benz, such as the A-Class saloon, successor to the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models, and by BMW, in the form of the model exclusive to China, the 1 Series saloon. This new Audi model is meant to be sportier and offer a different image from the rest of the range.
