New SEAT León ST Cupra

SEAT has just announced the launch of one of the most original and distinctive models of recent years in a segment that, nevertheless, is gaining more and more followers.

We are talking about the León ST Cupra, the most sporty and high-performance version of the Spanish estate.

Although the model may surprise us, it was only a matter of time before this alternative reached the markets, especially after the launch of the Golf R Variant, its “brother” from Wolfsburg. SEAT has decided to launch this very special version motivated by the rapid growth in demand for this type of vehicle, in a segment where alternatives are multiplying with the arrival of models such as the Ford Focus ST estate, the Golf R Variant or the Skoda Octavia RS Combi.

The exterior of the ST Cupra is similar to that of the 3- and 5-door variants until we look at the rear. That is where we find the biggest difference: as is only logical for the family version, the ST Cupra has much larger rear quarters, which increase space both for the second row of seats and for the boot. The rear now features a specific bumper with an integrated diffuser in dark colour and two oval exhaust outlets at each end.

Inside, the story is repeated. The cabin is identical to that of the 3- and 5-door León Cupra, combined with the extra room and roominess that the estate bodywork provides.

Technically, the León ST Cupra has all the features found in the hatchback versions, starting with its 2.0 TSI engine in its two outputs of 265 and 280 CV. Drive remains to the front wheels, while the transmission can be a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. Equipped with a specific limited-slip differential for this version, the 265 CV variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds (manual) or 6.1 seconds (DSG). In the case of the 280 CV version, these figures are reduced by 0.1 seconds with the same transmission.

The SEAT León ST Cupra will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, going on sale a few months later.
