New Toyota Yaris: more power and technology for the Japanese city car

The popular Toyota model is updated with a more powerful powertrain range, new exterior design elements and a more digitalised cabin

Ranking third among the best-selling Toyota models in 2022 and 2023, the fourth generation of the Toyota Yaris has established itself as one of the most popular models in the city car segment in Spain, thanks to its electrified powertrain range, generous equipment and excellent value for money.

Four years after its first presentation, the time has come for a facelift of the Toyota city car, which now introduces numerous interesting updates aimed at boosting its sales.

Starting with the design, the new Yaris features new body colour options and new 17-inch alloy wheel designs, depending on the trim chosen. This does not represent a very substantial change.

However, once inside the new Yaris, you will quickly notice the changes, including the new digital instrument cluster, which ranges from 7 to 12.3 inches, and the new 9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system on base versions, or 10.5-inch on the better-equipped ones.

The list of driver assistance systems has also received some new additions, such as a new camera and a new radar with greater range for detecting objects at longer distances, the Proactive Driving Assist (PDA), which reduces speed when the driver lifts off the accelerator and approaches a slower vehicle or a bend, and the new Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS), which activates if the vehicle detects driver inactivity.

New, more powerful variant

Turning to the mechanical side, the new Toyota Yaris will continue to offer the 120H full hybrid version, which produces 116 CV and 141 Nm of torque, and will now be joined by another variant (called Hybrid 130) that increases output to 130 CV and 185 Nm of engine torque. Both will be paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.

Although prices for this update are not yet known, Toyota has announced that the order book will open next June, so the first units should reach dealerships during the fourth quarter of 2023.
