New Volkswagen Caddy
Volkswagen has unveiled the fourth generation of the Caddy. With this new model, it aims to build on the success of its predecessor, which has sold 1.5 million units worldwide during the seven years it has been in production.
Its exterior has been redesigned to match the new look of the brand’s other models. Between the van, for everyday work use, and the private-use variant, there are some differences that are noticeable at first glance. The wing mirrors are larger on the van, and it has a more spartan interior with more rigid materials, such as the plastics used in the lower part of the dashboard and other areas of the cabin, to better withstand the demands of work. Instead of rear side windows, the bodywork panel takes their place.
If the chosen version is the private-use one rather than the work version, the practicality and versatility of its interior make it a vehicle that can adapt perfectly to the customer’s needs. Family trips and leisure use are equally well catered for in the new Caddy, which makes it an ideal vehicle if you need cargo space that can comfortably hold the luggage of all passengers, or larger items that would not fit in another type of car.

The new engines are more efficient, as they use state-of-the-art technology and comply with the new Euro 6 emissions regulations. The four diesel versions are based on a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder block, with power outputs ranging from 75 CV in the entry-level version up to 150 CV in the most powerful variant. Another novelty is the new 1.4 TGI engine, which replaces the EcoFuel, consumes less fuel, offers more power and is kinder to the environment.
The three petrol variants available are: the 1.2 TSI, which has a four-cylinder block and 84 CV, the range continues with the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder with 102 CV, and finally the 1.4 TSI four-cylinder with 125 CV.
The new Caddy is also up to date in terms of technology. It comes as standard with the “Front Assist” environment monitoring system. It also includes the city emergency braking system, which automatically applies the brakes to avoid any collision if the vehicle is travelling at less than 30 km/h. In the passenger version, it is fitted with side and curtain airbags, in addition to the driver and passenger airbags.

Optional extras include “Light Assist”, the Fatigue Detector, the “Park Assist” parking assistance system, or the adaptive cruise control (ACC) which, combined with the DSG gearbox, can slow the vehicle in tailbacks and traffic jams until it comes to a complete stop.
The new Caddy will launch in Germany at the end of June. It will reach the rest of the countries from then on.
