Nissan prepares a rival for the Toyota GT-86 with the 370Z's downsizing?

The recipe seems promising and not too difficult: a sports coupé with a relatively small engine, but with the key point: that it be affordable; like the formula used by Subaru and Toyota with the BRZ and the GT-86, respectively. And it seems Nissan is interested in producing this type of vehicle in the near future, according to Shiro Nakamura, director of the construction office at Nissan.

According to Nakamura, Nissan is studying the possibility of putting the 370Z through a widespread downsizing process. However, it is not clear whether the 370Z will have two different versions or whether the current version will be directly replaced by a variant with a less powerful and smaller engine.

This change could arrive as early as the next generation of the 370Z, which is clearly more convenient for the brand, without the investment required for a completely new model.

It is interesting to see that this would considerably widen the range of Nissan sports cars for all tastes and prices, so there would be three variants to choose from: the GT-R, the current 370Z and the next, hypothetical sports model with a lower cost and a smaller engine, recalling the Nissan Silvia/Datsun 200 SX.
