Official: Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG sign a collaboration agreement

Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG officially announce a collaboration agreement. From now on, Mercedes-Benz and AMG will supply engines and electronic components to the Aston Martin range, in exchange for a 5% stake in the British firm.

For months there had been speculation about this possibility, but a couple of hours ago it became a reality. Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development of sports vehicles.

Thanks to this joint collaboration, the German company will become the owner of 5% of Aston Martin Lagonda, offering its technical resources to develop high-performance sports cars.

Not only will the AMG performance division be part of this agreement, since the parent company Mercedes-Benz will also collaborate.
In this way, Mercedes-AMG will supply engines that will renew the classic British V8 and V12, while Mercedes-Benz will offer its electrical/electronic expertise to the English company.
Daimler receives in return a 5% stake in the British manufacturer, which it will receive gradually according to the terms of the signed agreement.

From now on, Mercedes-AMG will become the fundamental pillar of development, although the collaboration agreement with Ford will remain in force until 2017.
In all likelihood, the first model in which we will see the fruits of this collaboration will be the next generation of the Vantage, the smallest of the Astons (with the exception of the controversial Cygnet).

A wide range of possibilities opens up for the English brand, which has already had numerous owners (Ford, Prodrive…), and has often gone through financial hardship.
Currently its range consists of the micro city car Cygnet (based on the Toyota iQ), the Vantage in its V8, S, V12 and V12 S versions, the immortal DB9, the Rapide S saloon and the flagship Vanquish.
