Official information and images of the 760i and 760Li

BMW has published details and images of the top variants of the new 7 Series, the 760i and 760Li. These saloons take their names from a 6-litre V12 engine that produces 544 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and delivers a peak torque of 750 Nm from 1,500 rpm. This twelve-cylinder unit features twin turbochargers and direct injection, and is paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, the first of its kind for BMW.
With this technology, the 760i and 760Li accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, with an average consumption of 12.9 and 13 litres respectively and emissions of 300 grams of CO2/km. Although not low, these figures demonstrate the effects of the “EfficientDynamics” improvements that BMW has implemented in these saloons weighing almost 3 tonnes. They are also large cars: while the 760i already measures 5 metres, the long-wheelbase version adds 14 centimetres to its length.
On the outside, the 7 Series V12 stands out for its chrome front grille, its specific 19-inch alloy wheels, the “V12” badge on the chrome side trim next to the doors, the two exclusive rectangular twin exhaust outlets and the chrome strip running between them. The interior is characterised by stainless steel door sill trim (featuring another “V12” logo that lights up), leather-wrapped instrument panel, Alcantara sun visors and noble walnut root veneer trim, among other details.
BMW mentions in its press release that the new automatic gearbox is part of its ActiveHybrid programme, which marks progress towards the production of the hybrid variant of the 7 Series (combining an electric motor with an eight-cylinder petrol engine), which will go on sale later this year. A model that needs BMW to keep up with Mercedes-Benz and its redesigned S-Class.
