One in every five Ford cars sold in Europe uses the EcoBoost engine

According to data provided by Ford, the turbocharged petrol engine of choice in Europe during the first half of 2014 was the EcoBoost 1.0 three-cylinder, manufactured by the company and the one with the greatest outlook across its models. In other words, at first glance, one in every five cars of the brand sold on the continent is fitted with this powertrain.

The exact number of models equipped with this engine was 120,000 units, compared with the 105,000 cars sold in the same period of the previous year, which represents an increase of 15%, which is not bad at all. The models that offer this option in their engine line-up have also increased their share individually, which guarantees the success of the proposal.

By model, 47% of the Ford B-Max cars sold were equipped with this engine. The Ford Focus fitted it to 33% of all units, and in the case of the Ford Fiesta the percentage was 30% of the cars delivered during the first six months of 2014.

The EcoBoost engine began production in 2012, and it is currently fitted to the Fiesta, B-MAX, EcoSport, C-MAX / Grand C-MAX, Tourneo Connect, Tourneo Courier, Transit Connect and Transit Courier. Its success has gone hand in hand with its incorporation into more models, which have been very well received by users.

Soon the new Ford Mondeo will join the EcoBoost family, in addition to the introduction of a new version of the engine, this time producing 140 CV, which will power the Ford Fiesta Red Edition and the Black Edition. There are currently two versions of the 1.0 EcoBoost engine: the standard one, producing 90 CV, and a more powerful one producing 125 CV.
