Onvo L90: the second electric SUV from Chinese manufacturer NIO will arrive this very year

The Onvo L90 will be an electric SUV with three rows of seats and spacious enough to hold the luggage of any large family, while also offering a Premium level of finish.

The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO has released the first details about the second model from its sub-brand Onvo. The L90, which is the name chosen by the brand, will be officially unveiled in the second quarter of this year, with the aim of reaching the market shortly after, in the third quarter.

At that point the L90 will become Onvo’s flagship. It is an electric SUV of generous dimensions with three rows of seats. The perfect vehicle for large families.

NIO launched its sub-brand Onvo in May 2024, coinciding with the International Day of Families, and focused the brand on the needs of families with several children. The first model, the L60, is also a large SUV, but with somewhat more modest dimensions than the upcoming L90. It is therefore a direct competitor of the Tesla Model Y, the sales leader in this segment of the market.

In China, the L60 starts at 206,900 yuan, which at the current exchange rate comes to around 27 thousand euros, and the first deliveries took place at the end of last September. Last January, Onvo delivered 5,912 units of the L60, with a cumulative total of 26,673 units since its market launch.

The Onvo L60 will also arrive in Spain this year

2025 is a crucial year for NIO, as the Chinese manufacturer hopes to finally become profitable, after this goal was already delayed by two years compared with its initial plans. To achieve it, the company plans to expand into 25 international markets, prioritising the Onvo and Firefly brands, while maintaining its own pricing policy and avoiding price wars with other manufacturers such as Tesla. At NIO they believe this will be possible because their vehicles are aimed at customers looking for a more Premium product.

The new tariffs imposed in Europe and the United States on vehicles imported from China will also force the company to raise its prices, bringing them closer even to those of other Premium vehicle manufacturers such as Porsche, according to the announcement made by the brand’s own Chief Executive Officer, William Li.
