Onvo, the new brand from NIO that will arrive in Europe in a few months

Brands from China are carving out a significant niche in the European market. But there is always room for one more, and now NIO, one of the leading Chinese manufacturers, is preparing a more intensive landing in several countries on our continent. The brand is already present in Norway, Germany and the Netherlands, but it wants to expand using other sub-brands, which will occupy segments in which the parent companies cannot operate.

The case of Onvo is one of those strategic moves that NIO has prepared to position itself in the mainstream electric car segment. Initially, this brand was going to be called Alps, but over time it changed to its current name. It means On Voyage, which is its official name, although in China it is known as Ledao, meaning Road to happiness.

To begin with, Onvo has presented a model called the L60, which will be a D-segment SUV. It will measure 4.83 meters in length, 1.92 meters in width and 1.64 meters in height. The wheelbase of 2.89 meters allows a fairly comfortable interior. Something that surprises about this model is the large multimedia screen that will dominate the cabin interior.

In addition, the brand assures that it will not have a conventional instrument cluster, since this function will be handled by a head-up display of 13 inches that will show everything the driver needs to stay well informed about driving. In the rear, another screen dedicated to entertainment will also be installed, this one eight inches.

Dedicated platform

The platform of the L60 will feature a 900-volt architecture. Several batteries will be available to buyers. The entry-level range uses an LFP battery with a capacity of 60 kWh, which will provide a range of 555 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. Another variant uses a 90 kWh battery, which increases the range up to 730 kilometers.

In its top variant, the battery will reach 150 kWh, with just over 1,000 kilometers of range, always under the CLTC cycle. The price of this model will start in China at 219,900 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to 28,900 euros. However, when it reaches Europe its price will likely climb to 40,000 euros.

Other Onvo models

The Onvo L60 will not be the only one to arrive in Europe. After the first launch, another model will follow, this time with three rows of seats, allowing capacity for six or seven occupants. We know nothing about this new model, but it has been announced that it will have several configurations and that it will sit above its predecessor. For now, we will wait until 2025 to see the first model from this new brand, and the next model will be revealed gradually.
