Opel announces it will lower the price of its vehicles

Karl-Friedrich Stracke announces that Opel will lower the price of its cars and that it is preparing to invest in order to improve its vehicle lineup, instead of cutting costs.

We have been reading how the presidents of the various brands are starting to worry more about low sales, and if there is one brand that is currently in a little more danger than others, it is Opel. At the mercy of the decisions that best suit its GM partners, Opel seeks to recover some of the lost ground, and one of the initiatives it proposes is to lower the price of its vehicles.

According to Karl-Friedrich Stracke, competitiveness and sales could return if car prices are lowered (well, you don’t need to be the president of a brand to realize that, right?), but the brand will also win back part of the lost customers who have bought cars from other brands.

Stracke also announces that significant investments will be made to improve its product portfolio, unlike the trend at other brands, which have cut their development budgets and eliminated unnecessary spending on redesigns, even on new models.

The plans to launch 23 new or redesigned models by 2016, along with 13 new engines that will be integrated into those models, have also been reiterated.

Given the current context, it seems too good to be true. What I would like to know is where the money for productivity investments will come from. Hope never dies, Opel has always been one of the most advanced brands in Europe, and although its situation is nothing to celebrate or get excited about, it still is today, even as many of its customers turn their backs on it.
